“Stories That Rebel Against Limits — From Freedom Runner to What’s Next”

Paul C. Darden—teacher, author, and CEO of Serious Pens Publishing—was born in Longview, Texas and raised with a passion for educating youth, uplifting diverse voices, and inspiring readers through powerful storytelling. What began as a dream in the classroom grew into a publishing company built from the ground up, story by story, with one mission: to bring bold, inclusive, unforgettable narratives to the world.

What We Do

SeriousPensPublishing publishes unique, contemporary stories that reflect a richly diverse world. We engage young adult and adult readers with modern, relatable, and inspiring literary content. Our mission is to increase literacy by bringing to life characters and perspectives that are often overlooked in traditional publishing, offering voices that reflect the evolving, multifaceted experiences of today’s readers.

The Problem

We solve Literacy rates among Americans are shifting downward even as access to information grows. Young adults read less because they don’t see themselves represented in the stories they encounter, nor do those stories reflect the realities of the world around them. SeriousPensPublishing addresses this gap by introducing novels and works that speak to everyday life, with characters and situations that resonate with real experiences. We intentionally create content that expands imagination and vocabulary while treating readers with dignity through complex worlds crafted by complex, relatable authors.
